Genie Chance was born in Texas. She obtained her bachelor's degree from North Texas State University (1946) and did graduate work at Baylor University. She was an instructor of speech and radio in Texas (1946-1949). In 1959, she moved to Anchorage and worked as a radio and television newscaster and editorialist. William Boardman was born in Iowa. He attended Grinnell College and graduated from Drake University. He became an investment banker in Iowa but joined the U.S. Coast Guard in World War II. After the war, he became involved in business in Alaska, becoming an insurance underwriter in 1950.
