The collection consists of the personal and professional papers concerning Genie Chance's activities as a journalist and legislator. They include materials on the 1964 earthquake, papers relating to her career in journalism, legislative papers including subject files, correspondence, and so forth, recordings on the 1964 Earthquake and KENI and KFQD radio broadcasts, and other papers and photographs.

Genie Chance was born in Texas. She obtained her bachelor's degree from North Texas State University (1946) and did graduate work at Baylor University. She was an instructor of speech and radio in Texas (1946-1949). In 1959, she moved to Anchorage and worked as a radio and television newscaster and editorialist. She formed a public relations firm (1964), and later served in the Alaska House of Representatives (1969-1975) and Senate (1975-1979). She married William Boardman in 1971. Genie Chance ...

William Boardman was born in Iowa. He attended Grinnell College and graduated from Drake University. He became an investment banker in Iowa but joined the U.S. Coast Guard in World War II. After the war, he became involved in business in Alaska, becoming an insurance underwriter in 1950.
